Hello people!
Yes this has been long overdue, but circumstances make it rather hard for me to write. For one, access to a computer is incredibly limited—the internet even more so. It takes time to do these things, man.
I arrived in Sarajevo on June 11th at around 10 pm. Sajo and I went from there to our friend’s apartment. His cousin drove. Dzeno was waiting for us and was super-excited to see me. I was exhausted but I had had coffee at the airport in the Belgrade prior to my arrival, so I couldn’t sleep. We waited for Allen to come home and after talking to him, went to sleep, except sleep couldn’t come at all, thanks to the coffee, so we talked most of the night.
The next morning, which marked 11 months Sajo and I have been together, we walked into Bascarsija to eat some cevape. We completely missed breakfast, having lounged around for a good long while waiting for Kenan to get up so he could lock the door behind us. The day was fun until it started raining. We bought an umbrella from some old man. It was wet already. It also didn’t help much as our arms in the outer perimeters were soaked. We had to keep switching sides. But we got to eat some ice cream! When we finally got back to the apartment in the for Kenan to be able to leave and go to his school, we had decided to catch the first bus to Olovo. It was still raining outside, so Kenan convinced us to wait until the boys got home so we could go when it wasn’t wet. And blablabla, we waited, we missed the first bus, we ate, we got home, I found out I had to stay with dedo, etc., etc. That was the first day.
The weekend sort of blurs into itself. It was cold, freezing almost. Friday Sajo had to work, so I sat with him for a little before he had to work, then I went home and came back. Later on, I went out with the girls. We ended up eating pizza and watching the soccer game at another cafe. Saturday…neither of us can remember. Sunday, Sajo worked and noe one else was around so I hung out with him.
So far, it doesn’t seem all that exciting I know.
It was a rather uneventful and cold first few days.
Monday we were supposed to go to Sarajevo, but because Sajo was sick, we watched movies instead and moved the trip to Wednesday. Wednesday the bus driver charged me 3 KM less than what he should have but we didn’t say anything. We went to get our birth certificates and proofs of citizenship and walked around the city and Bascarsija for a bit to eat some yummy desserts.
Thursday was a good day, nice and sunny. We walked to Zeleni Vir, where everyone goes swimming in the summer. The water was still cold and no one was really there. We sat on a rock and took pictures of lizards and this butterfly that was in love with my chocolate covered hand. It was very nice.
The weekend was a little more exciting this time around, more people came and everyone was out watching the soccer games. During the day it was a bit dull but it picked up toward the evening. Sajo also got to be on TV for some rafting thing. Hayat came and filmed them going down a river.
That’s as much as I can remember of the past couple of weeks.
Yesterday, Sunday, we went hiking to the dom. I found out the hard way how out of shape I am. We walked up through the forest, whose floor was still wet and full of tracks from various farm animals. It was a hard climb and I complained and sweated a lot. There were fences to cross and dismantle, there was poop everywhere, and branches kept threatening to slap me in the face. It was worth it though, except for the fact that my nose was stuffed and I couldn’t smell all the good things. I wish I had some pictures to show everyone, because it was so awesome. At one point we reached this field where there were some sheep eating and you could hear all these bees all around. I was scared, haha. I also got to eat various wild strawberries that Sajo picked along the way for me. They were tasty
When we got to the dom, we rested for a bit and then I made us a salad (which I inexplicably managed to mess up), while Sajo got ready a fire for us to cook some chicken and sausages. It was a delicious meal There were a few older men there who were excited to find out who my dad is
They talked to me about him for a while, all kinds of stories. They were talking over one another, haha, so it was hard to catch everything. By the time they finished we were ready to go and set off, stopping at Memagic stijena for a bit to sit and talk. We got down to Olovo around nine, I showered with barely warm water and sat with the grandparents, waiting for the soccer game to pass so I could go to sleep because everything hurt.
That’s it so far. Condensed. I’ll try to update a little better later on.
…it needs a beginning. Try to wrap that one around your head.
Anyway, here it be: the blog. It’s easier than e-mailing everyone considering how internet connections work in Bosnia and I know people will be asking me tons of questions, most of which I forget to answer. I’m bad at that remembering what I did yesterday or a week ago thing, especially if it didn’t seem all that exciting to me. Actually, I’m just bad at writing it down in e-mail, duplicated a ridiculous amount of times. But cool things will happen and be done that I will underestimate but you may find exciting (I hope).
Onward we go then.
